American Culture: Dialects and idioms across the U.S.《英語の慣用句や遠回しな言い方》
日本でよく知られている慣用句に「狐の嫁入り（きつねのよめいり）」いうものがあります。これは、「晴れているのに、急に雨が降ってくること」という意味です。でも、初めて聞く人には、意味が全く分からないですね。
英語にもこのような慣用句や遠回しな表現が数多く存在します。また同じ言語でも、地域によって独特な表現や方言があったり、慣習もさまざまです。
同じ一つの事柄でも、国や地域によって、捉え方や言い方が違うというのはとてもおもしろく興味深いですね！
今回のGlobal Talk Forumでは、日本に滞在経験のあるスピーカーが、日本での体験などを交えながら、アメリカ全土の方言や慣習の違いについてお話しします。
このイベントは《英語にチャレンジ》することが目的なので、流暢に話せなくても構いません。
自分の英語にチャレンジして、出てくる様々な質問に、自分なりの考えをいれて、英語で話してみませんか？

Patricia Saravia
My name is Patricia Saravia — and I am an undergraduate student at Old Dominion University. I am currently pursuing my degree as a language instructor. I am a federal employee of the United States Government. I am married with children. My family is from Guatemala and immigrated to the United States where I was later born. I was enlisted in the Navy for five years as an aviation mechanic and spent 3 of them stationed in Atsugi, Japan. During my time there I was an active part of Operation Tomodachi. I later lived in Iwakuni for another 3 years while my husband was stationed there. I have experienced life in Japan as both a civilian and as Active-Duty personnel. My time there has allowed me some insight that I have used to further my understanding of both Japanese culture as well as language.
